Optical System Design
Example 1: An inspection system on a continuous flow process was proving unreliable at the edge of the field of view because of a tail off in light intensity.
The Solution: A custom lens was designed with an aberration profile that concentrated the light at the edges giving a flat response and without compromising image quality.
Example 2: A precision optical instrument, which had been in production for more than 40 years, hit problems because one of the component glass types had become obsolete meaning it could no longer be manufactured to the original design.
The Solution: The system was modelled in Zemax to quantify the critical design parameters. A near-equivalent glass type was substituted, and the design was re-optimised to bring it back within the design spec.
